Disneyland Paris, opened in 1992, was a $4.2 billion investment, but Disney has not managed to recoup the money, although the complex is now the company's most profitable international destination.
Last year, the complex generated record revenues of $4 billion, with a net profit of $304.2 million, nearly three times more than in previous years. However, the cumulative losses in the first 25 years were $3.7 billion.
Disneyland Paris has been affected by economic recessions and terrorist attacks, and huge debts have hindered massive investments from Disney. In 2017, the company bought back shares from other shareholders, withdrawing from the stock market, which helped reduce the debts.
Although the complex has not reached the desired profitability, it continues to attract millions of visitors and promote Disney products.
