The Railway Reform Authority (ARF) has signed a contract with the Siemens Mobility association for the purchase of 12 hydrogen-powered electric trains, worth 1.134 billion lei, excluding VAT.

The contract includes the delivery of the trains and their maintenance for a period of 15 years, with an option for extension.

The first trains will be delivered in 24 months, and the entire batch in 36 months, being available for passengers in the spring of 2029.

The trains will contribute to more sustainable rail transport, having zero emissions on non-electrified routes.

Each train will have 131 seats, equipped with modern safety and comfort systems.

The project is funded through the Transport Program 2021-2027 and will support Romania's sustainability objectives.

Maintenance will be carried out locally, ensuring reliable operation of the trains.
