The Vice President of the National Authority for Energy Regulation (ANRE), Gabriel Andronache, stated that the high retail prices for consumer goods are not caused by the increase in electricity or gas prices.
He emphasized that data from 2025 shows that the price of energy for non-household consumers has remained stable after Romania exited the capped price scheme, while household consumers have felt the effects of energy price increases only at the individual consumption level. According to the official, if product prices are rising, the causes must be sought in other economic factors and someone should take care of analyzing them. Andronache mentioned that Romania needs to increase energy production and have stronger interconnections to achieve more attractive and stable prices in the energy market, noting the imbalances between energy exports and imports and the challenges related to storage capacity.
