At the ECOFIN meeting, Alexandru Nazare, the Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of the future of pensions for Romanians and strategic investments in Romania. He supported the European Commission's project for occupational and pan-European pension products (PEPP), which will introduce favorable tax treatment for these pensions, similar to that applied to national private pension funds.

Nazare explained that this system will contribute to increasing the pensions of citizens and will generate capital for essential infrastructure projects. He also proposed a portable pan-European pension product that would allow Romanians to transfer their pensions between EU countries without bureaucracy.

During the bilateral meetings, Nazare promoted Romania's candidacy to host the European Customs Authority, highlighting Bucharest's potential as a center of expertise for EU border security.
