In the wake of the recent attacks between Israel and Iran, Minister Oana Ţoiu has recommended that Romanians in these countries take shelter and have sufficient supplies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the withdrawal of non-essential diplomatic staff, but essential staff remain to provide consular assistance. A coordination cell has also been activated to manage the situation.
The number of Romanians who have requested assistance is lower than estimates, and many have chosen to remain in Iran. In Israel, an increase in requests for assistance is expected. The evacuation of Romanians could be carried out via alternative routes, considering the closure of airspace. Israeli authorities have announced the opening of border points, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages citizens to contact diplomatic missions for details about evacuation.
