Miruna Căjvăneanu, a journalist based in Rome, emphasizes that between 2006 and 2007, the number of Romanians in Italy grew rapidly to approximately one million, many of whom worked without legal forms. According to her, Romanians currently contribute about 2% to Italy's GDP, with estimates potentially being higher if the informal economy is taken into account. She points out that any significant reduction in the activity of this community would have important effects in sectors such as construction and elderly care.

Căjvăneanu states that young people from the third generation, born in Italy, face identity dilemmas, often feeling caught between two cultures. At the same time, she observes a cultural rapprochement among teenagers, despite the weakening of direct ties with Romania. Additionally, the journalist believes that many Romanians choose to remain in Italy due to structural issues in Romania, such as bureaucracy and the healthcare system.

She also mentions that the Romanian state does not invest enough in researching diaspora communities, a responsibility that largely falls on the Italian authorities. These studies thus provide an overview of the transformations of the Romanian community in Italy, highlighting both demographic developments and changes in mentality between generations.
