Sebastian Achim, a Romanian fisherman, suffered a serious shark bite while fishing off the coast of Waterford, Ireland. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Achim and his colleagues brought a blue shark on board. While admiring the fish, it jumped and bit Achim on the calf.
The Romanian managed to tie his leg with a rope to stop the bleeding, but he lost consciousness due to blood loss. His friends called the authorities, and he was airlifted to the hospital, where he learned that he would need reconstructive surgery. Dr. Nicholas Payne, a marine biologist, emphasized that such incidents are rare but warned fishermen to be cautious when handling sharks, which can be dangerous. Achim stated that he feels more worried for his loved ones than for his own health.
