The City Hall of Rome declared a day of mourning in memory of Octav Stroici, a 66-year-old Romanian worker who died after being trapped under the rubble of a tower undergoing renovation. Stroici was rescued after 11 hours but died in the hospital. On Tuesday, trade unions in Italy organized a march with torches to protest against dangerous working conditions. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense canceled an air show to respect the ongoing investigations. The Prosecutor's Office in Rome has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the tower's collapse, which was to be transformed into a museum. The tower, built in the 13th century, had been under renovation for four years and was in an advanced state of degradation.
