Daniel Toma, a Romanian ambulance driver from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, sparked a scandal after he erected a gigantic metal garage without permission. The structure, which is 3.4 meters high and over seven meters wide, was built next to his terraced house and has been described by neighbors as a "fortress" that has ruined their lives.
Although the local council ordered the demolition of the garage, Toma refuses to comply, claiming he needs it to house his ambulances. Furious neighbors have filed official complaints, stating that the garage affects their view and reduces the value of their properties. Hertsmere Council rejected the application for retrospective permission and has initiated legal action against Toma, who contested the decision, but it was upheld by the Planning Inspectorate. Neighbors fear that such an illegal construction could set a dangerous precedent in the community.
