A cemetery in Merate, province of Lecco, Italy, was devastated by thieves who stole vases, icons, and copper statues from graves during a nighttime raid. A van registered in the name of a Romanian citizen, loaded with approximately 1,500 kg of stolen items, was abandoned during a police chase.

The goods have been recovered and made available to the owners for identification and collection, and authorities continue the search for the perpetrators. The mayor of Merate condemned the act and expressed solidarity with the affected families.
