In October, Belgium reported 1,097 bankrupt companies, according to GraydonCreditsafe, marking a 2.5% increase compared to the same month in 2024 and the highest value recorded in the last seven years. Eric Van den Broele, head of the research department, mentioned that, despite expectations of a decrease in bankruptcies following the autumn holiday, economic pressure remains significant, especially in the transport and hospitality sectors.
Flanders recorded a 5% decrease in bankruptcies, in contrast to increases of 7% in Wallonia and 18.5% in Brussels. In total, in the first ten months of the year, 9,628 bankruptcies were recorded, a 4.2% increase compared to 2024, with a total loss of 22,500 jobs, particularly affecting the hospitality sector, which lost 4,210 jobs. Although the situation seems stable in Flanders, the difficulties in Wallonia and Brussels suggest a fragile economic recovery.
