A devastating fire broke out on Tuesday morning at the Oxy building in De Brouckère Square, Brussels, resulting in the death of six workers, Romanian and Belgian citizens. The victims were trapped in a lift cabin that collapsed during the fire, which started around 07:30 on the second floor of the building undergoing renovation.

Although firefighters responded quickly, the flames spread rapidly through the lift shafts, causing the collapse of two cabins. Rescue efforts lasted all day, and in the following days, intervention teams found the bodies of the workers in the first cabin.

Two other workers suffered severe burns, and a firefighter was treated for exhaustion. Authorities continue investigations to determine the cause of the fire, and King Philippe and Prime Minister Bart De Wever visited the site of the tragedy to express condolences to the affected families.
