An 18-year-old Romanian was stopped by the St. Gallen Cantonal Police on Tuesday evening after allegedly driving at extremely high speed on the A13 motorway near Buchs, Switzerland. The incident took place shortly before 11 p.m., in a construction zone where the speed limit was 80 km/h.
A patrol travelling in an unmarked car noticed the vehicle driving from Sevelen towards Haag. The vehicle passed the police unit, and the officers began pursuing it. The driver was instructed to stop by displaying the message “Stop Police” on a multifunctional screen. The young man complied, and the police carried out a check.
The checks revealed further irregularities: the car did not have a valid registration document or a motorway vignette. The vehicle was confiscated by the Swiss authorities.
The Romanian is under investigation for a serious violation of traffic rules and is due to be reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the canton of St. Gallen. Investigators are continuing to establish the exact speed at which the car was travelling and whether it constitutes a particularly serious violation of road traffic legislation.
