An 18-year-old from Olt County has confessed to killing an 81-year-old woman out of fear that she might alert the authorities about the counterfeit euro banknotes.

In the commune of Băbiciu, Olt County, an 81-year-old woman was found dead in her own home, and the authorities were alerted via 112. The investigation led to the identification of the aggressor, an 18-year-old young man with a criminal record. The crime occurred on February 2, 2026, following a spontaneous conflict, when the young man struck the victim with a piece of firewood, causing fatal injuries. The aggressor confessed to the act, explaining that he acted out of nervousness, fearing that the victim would report to the police about the counterfeit euro banknotes he had given her in exchange for a sum of money. The young man was detained for 24 hours and will be presented to the Olt Tribunal with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.
