Former MEP Vlad Gheorghe announced on Facebook the submission of a legislative project proposing the abolition of the six sectors of the Capital and Ilfov County, unifying them into a single administrative entity. He calls for a referendum on this matter to be held simultaneously with the elections for the General Mayor on December 7. Gheorghe criticizes the current administrative division, considering it inefficient and costly, favoring "local barons" who exploit citizens' taxes. He emphasizes the financial imbalance between the sectors and the General Mayor's Office, stating that the sectors have the largest budgets in the country, while the Capital faces a deficit. Gheorghe appeals to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to organize the referendum, believing that the mayoral elections represent an ideal opportunity to consult citizens. He also mentions that administrative reforms have been an unfulfilled promise of the Romanian political class.
