Vlad Bălțățeanu, the main suspect in the case of Valentina, the 28-year-old woman found dead in a suitcase in the Olt River, is being questioned today by Vâlcea police officers. The 30-year-old man spent the night in the custody of the Vâlcea County Police Inspectorate after being brought to Romania under escort.
The man had surrendered to the authorities in Switzerland, where he had fled immediately after committing the deed. He had been placed on an international wanted list for murder, and his flight ended at the end of September, when he decided to surrender.
Investigators are trying to establish, through the suspect’s statements, how the victim’s final moments unfolded. If he admits to the crime, police officers will take him to reconstruct the route, from the house in Tomșani, where the young woman was allegedly killed, to the banks of the Olt River, where the body was allegedly abandoned.
The case came to light after a man fishing in the area of the Ionești dam noticed a suitcase on the water. Forensic doctors determined that the woman had suffered a violent death one day before she was thrown into the river. The victim had head injuries and five broken ribs.
