The investigation into Valentina’s case, the 28-year-old woman found dead in a suitcase thrown into the Olt River, has become more complicated after her boyfriend, Vlad Bălțățeanu, denied killing her. The suspect surrendered to the authorities in Switzerland and was brought to Romania for questioning.
According to a person who allegedly convinced him to surrender, Bălțățeanu reportedly stated that, on the evening Valentina died, a conflict broke out between the young woman and his uncle and escalated. The suspect allegedly admitted that he hit her, but claims that she was still alive. He reportedly went to sleep afterward, and in the morning allegedly found her lifeless beside him.
The man claims that he put the body in a suitcase and threw it into the Olt River. He further maintains that his uncle was in the home both during the night and when he left in the morning.
Investigators are set to question the uncle to verify the statements and the chronology of events. If the two versions do not coincide, police may request that they undergo lie detector tests. Investigations continue to establish the exact circumstances in which Valentina died and the responsibilities of each person involved.
