Viorica Dăncilă, Romania's first female prime minister, said that she keeps from Ion Iliescu "all the good things" he achieved for the country, including Romania's accession to NATO and the European Union. Dăncilă emphasized her collaboration with Iliescu within the PSD, noting that their interactions were constructive and based on arguments. Ion Iliescu died on August 5, at the age of 95, after a long suffering from lung cancer.
