Nicușor Dan congratulates Giorgia Meloni after the Italian government set a longevity record

President Nicușor Dan sent a congratulatory message to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the government led by her became the longest-serving government in the history of the Italian Republic. The government reached 1,413 days of uninterrupted rule, surpassing the record of 1,412 days set by Silvio Berlusconi’s second government between 2001 and 2005.

The Romanian head of state emphasized that the length of the term reflects institutional continuity and gives public policies more time to produce results. Nicușor Dan highlighted the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Italy, as well as the economic and social ties between the two countries.

More than one million Romanians live and work in Italy, and this community is the largest foreign community in the country. Italy is Romania’s second-largest trading partner and the main source of foreign-capital companies present on the Romanian market. The two states are marking their bilateral relations through the Romania-Italy Cultural Year.

The president also mentioned cooperation in negotiations on the European Union’s multiannual budget for the 2028–2034 period, as well as collaboration concerning the security of NATO’s eastern flank and the Black Sea.

Giorgia Meloni became prime minister on October 22, 2022, and is the first woman to hold this position in Italy. Although her government holds the record for the uninterrupted duration of a single cabinet, Berlusconi remains the prime minister with the longest cumulative time in office.
