Alexandru Munteanu, deputy chairman of USR Dâmbovița and local councilor in Târgoviște, was detained Thursday morning by DIICOT prosecutors, according to sources cited by G4Media. Evgheni Poliakov, former director of UPET, was also reportedly detained in the same case. The investigation concerns the alleged evasion of international sanctions and the transfer to Belarus of industrial equipment with possible military use.
At the center of the case is a VL40-type vertical lathe, valued at approximately 1.7 million euros. According to information from the investigation, the equipment was allegedly destined for an entity in Belarus subject to the restrictive measures imposed by the European Union, through intermediaries.
DIICOT is examining commercial, technical, and export operations carried out between December 2025 and September 2026. The equipment is considered a dual-use product, civilian and military, and its transfer is subject to special rules and controls concerning international sanctions.
According to data from the Trade Registry cited by G4Media, Munteanu is a shareholder in two companies, one of which allegedly has ties to the operations under investigation. He holds dual Romanian and Moldovan citizenship.
USR stated that, if the DIICOT accusations are confirmed, Alexandru Munteanu will be subject to the party's statutory provisions, including the possibility of expulsion from the party. The party specified that the law on sanctioning violations of embargoes was initiated by Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu.
The information regarding the accusations has not been confirmed by a final court decision.
