The report "State of the Climate – Romania 2025" highlights a constant increase in the average annual temperature in Romanian cities, exceeding 12 degrees Celsius in the period 2021-2024. Bucharest, which recorded temperatures over 40 degrees during the summer, is now comparable to capitals like Athens or Rome.

Over 12 million Romanians live in cities, where temperatures are 3-8 degrees higher than in rural areas. The intensification of the urban heat island, caused by built surfaces and traffic emissions, particularly affects dense neighborhoods with few green spaces.

Although Romania has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 75% compared to 1990, the challenge remains to implement effective climate policies in difficult sectors such as transport and agriculture.
