Two men were restrained, and one of them was handcuffed, after crossing the barriers at the entrance to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași and refusing to follow the gendarmes’ instructions. The incident occurred during the pilgrimage of Saint Parascheva, held from October 8 to 15.
According to the Bacău Mobile Gendarmerie Group, the two men insulted law enforcement officers and resisted a gendarme’s intervention. Another officer intervened to manage the situation, and the men were restrained. Subsequently, one of them displayed aggressive behavior and was handcuffed to prevent escalation and protect those involved.
The two men are to be taken to the competent prosecutor’s office, amid suspicions that they committed the offense of assaulting a law enforcement officer. Over the past 24 hours, gendarmes have also intervened in two other situations in which several people attempted to move ahead of the pilgrims’ line.
Law enforcement officers asked participants to follow the access rules and the instructions given in order to maintain safety throughout the religious event. The pilgrimage is being held at the shrine of Saint Parascheva, considered the protector of Moldavia.
