The National Company Transelectrica announced on Wednesday that the National Electric Power System (SEN) is in a state of high operational demand, following the temporary shutdown of the two nuclear units at CNE Cernavodă. Unit 2 was automatically disconnected on May 4 due to a malfunction, and Nuclearelectrica confirmed that it will remain offline for an extended period.
Unit 1 entered a planned shutdown on May 10, 2026. Transelectrica ensures that SEN operates in safe conditions and collaborates with operational entities to maintain the balance between production and consumption. Additionally, the electrical network is interconnected with European systems, which helps increase resilience and reduce the risks of disruptions. Maintenance work will be carried out according to nuclear safety standards.
