The management of Nuclearelectrica has announced that it will make operational decisions regarding the reconnection of the two reactors at CNE Cernavodă to the National Energy System, depending on the evolution of forecasts for the upcoming period.

Currently, the reactors are shut down due to the low level of the Danube, but they are in a "safe" state, without "operational or nuclear security risks."

Unit 2 was shut down in a controlled manner on August 13, and Unit 1 was shut down at the end of July, which led to a 10% reduction in domestic energy production, in the context of high consumption due to the heatwave.

The authorities intervened to extend the operation of Unit 2, relocating a sandbank from the Danube and sinking four barges to direct a higher flow of water towards the plant. CNE Cernavodă contributes approximately 20% to the total electricity production in Romania.
