The works on the second section of the Sibiu-Pitești highway, which includes 31.33 kilometers of road, have entered the execution phase for the third tunnel. On the construction site, the builders of the Mapa-Cengiz Association are simultaneously working on the Balota, Robești, and Boița tunnels, mobilizing approximately 562 workers and 155 machines. At the Balota tunnel, the first 16 meters have been excavated, while at Robești, the work stage has reached 36%, with the excavation of both galleries completed. At the Boița tunnel, 87 meters have been excavated on one gallery and 21 meters on the other, with a progress rate of 17%. Although the physical progress for the entire section has reached 11.63%, the works depend on the release of the revised Environmental Agreement by the Ministry of Environment. This section is considered the most difficult of the A1 highway, having a value of 4.25 billion lei, excluding VAT, and will connect Transylvania with Muntenia.
