They were detained at Henri Coandă International Airport after border police discovered a large quantity of cigarettes in their luggage. They had arrived from the United Arab Emirates and, after collecting their luggage, passed through the corridor designated for individuals with nothing to declare. Following thorough checks, authorities found 175,200 cigarettes (8,760 packs) hidden among their personal belongings.

All cigarettes were confiscated, and border police initiated investigations for smuggling, in accordance with current legislation. The incident highlights issues related to cigarette smuggling in Romania, similar to another recent case where a vehicle was pursued for the illegal transport of cigarettes.
