Inspectors from the General Directorate for Fiscal Anti-Fraud discovered four million untaxed cigarettes in a semi-trailer truck that entered Romania through the Nădlac Border Crossing Point. The vehicle was coming from the Netherlands, and the shipment was subsequently inspected on the A1 motorway, near the border.

The inspection revealed that the goods were not accompanied by the legally required documents. Following the checks, inspectors identified approximately four million cigarettes without tax stamps.

The discovery was made after the semi-trailer truck had passed through the border crossing and was stopped for inspection on the A1. The absence of mandatory documents raised suspicions regarding the legality of the shipment and the tax regime applicable to the goods.

Untaxed cigarettes are excise goods for which the taxes and excise duties required under Romanian legislation had not been paid, at least at the time of the inspection. The authorities will establish the origin and destination of the goods, as well as the legal measures required in this case.
