The 25-year-old man, confirmed with hantavirus infection at the Arad County Emergency Clinical Hospital (SCJU), was discharged on Thursday after a complete recovery. The patient was admitted on May 8 with a febrile syndrome, and the tests performed confirmed the presence of the hantavirus strain specific to Romania, which is not transmitted from person to person, but only from rodents.
On May 18, the National Institute of Public Health validated the diagnosis. The man had not traveled for business, having been previously admitted to the Psychiatric Hospital in Ștei. The epidemiological investigation established that the infection did not occur at his home, although he temporarily lived in a house with poor conditions, where he could have come into contact with rodent droppings. Doctors mentioned that serology showed an old infection that had become chronic.
