Meteorologists warn that this winter could bring much colder temperatures in Europe, the USA, and Canada due to a disruption of the polar vortex. This phenomenon, which occurs rarely, manifests as a weakening of the vortex, allowing cold air to escape southward. An anomaly referred to as 'sudden stratospheric warming' has been observed, which will affect polar circulation and lead to widespread cooling. Forecasts for December indicate waves of arctic air in the USA and below-average temperatures in Europe, with anticipated snowfall, especially in mountainous regions. Historically, a weakened polar vortex is associated with severe winters, and meteorologists suggest that the beginning of this winter could be colder than in previous years.
