President Nicușor Dan has promulgated a law that offers reparative rights to the victims of the Mineriad of June 13-15, 1990. They will receive a monthly indemnity of 5,000 lei, access to free medical treatment, and the possibility to retire five years before the standard age. The victims include the descendants of those who died in the violence in Bucharest, as well as the injured, arrested, or detained individuals.
The law also provides for the free granting of a burial plot, exemption from taxes for housing and automobiles, as well as free urban transport. Additionally, persons with disabilities and their caregivers benefit from the same rights. The indemnity will be indexed annually to the inflation rate, thus ensuring constant financial protection. The law will come into effect next year.
