Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, stated that, for the first time since the abolition of mandatory military service, young people will be able to voluntarily join the Army, not forcibly. This year, it is estimated that there will be between 1,000 and 3,000 positions available for the volunteer army, depending on the budget allocations from the Ministry of Finance. Young people aged between 18 and 35 will benefit from a four-month military training program, during which they will be housed in military units and will receive a compensation of approximately 15,000 lei net.
Miruță emphasized that the army has significantly modernized and that this service can be attractive to young people, both from the perspective of safety and from the passion for the military uniform. He also mentioned that it is important to find ways to convince young people to remain in the system, considering the high level of unemployment.
