Oana Zoiu announced the completion of the procedures for the Social Security Agreement between Romania and the USA, which will allow the accumulation of work periods for pensions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, announced on Tuesday the completion of the necessary procedures for the entry into force of the Agreement and the Administrative Arrangement regarding social security between Romania and the United States, scheduled for September 1, 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently supported this topic in dialogue with American partners during the 2025-2026 period.

The Agreement allows individuals who have worked in both countries to combine their work periods for the establishment of pension rights, thus facilitating access to social benefits. Oana Ţoiu emphasized that this strategic partnership will increase the attractiveness of investments and provide companies with more flexibility in managing human resources. The Agreement, signed in 2023 and ratified in 2024, required three years of waiting to be implemented, and now it will have a direct impact on the professional mobility and economic security of Romanian and American citizens.
