The Port of Constanța will implement 'cold ironing' technology at 10 berths, allowing ships to be powered with electricity directly at the dock. The project, funded by European funds through the CEF Transport program, aims to reduce carbon emissions, noise, and operating costs of ships.

The works will include the installation of the necessary infrastructure for powering cruise ships, RO-RO, ferries, and cargo ships, regardless of size or type. The design and execution contract, worth 86,129,240.43 lei (excluding VAT), will last 27 months, and the technology will allow ships to be powered even with the engines off, thus contributing to a cleaner environment in the port area.
