 
            According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, the population of Romania reached 21.7 million people on July 1, 2025, registering a decrease of 0.5% compared to the same date in 2024. The phenomenon of demographic aging has intensified, with an increase in the proportion of the elderly population (65 years and over) and a decrease in the young population (0-14 years).
As of July 1, 2025, the elderly population exceeded the young population by 35.4%, and the average age increased to 43.1 years. Additionally, the urban population was 11.9 million, decreasing, while the rural population slightly increased to 9.6 million. The proportion of women was 51.2%, and that of men was 48.8%. The age group 45-49 years had the highest proportion, at 8.6%.
