NIS: The natural increase of the population remained negative in July / More than 12,700 couples got married, while 2,058 divorced

In July 2026, 13,497 birth certificates were registered in Romania, 589 fewer than in the same month last year, representing a decrease of 4.2%. Compared with June 2026, however, the number of births increased by 1,705, or 14.5%.

Data published for the same period indicate 18,777 death certificates, 170 fewer than in July 2025 and 262 below the level recorded in the previous month. Among children up to one year old, 64 deaths were recorded, 12 fewer than last year, but 25 more than in June 2026.

The highest number of deaths, 7,646, was reported among people aged at least 80. This was followed by the 70-79 age group, with 5,311 deaths, and the 60-69 age group, with 2,952. The fewest cases were recorded among people aged 5-19, 0-4, and 20-29.

In urban areas, 9,607 deaths were recorded, while in rural areas, there were 9,170.

At the same time, 12,756 marriages and 2,058 divorces were recorded.
