During NewMoney.Talks #33, economics professor Christian Năsulea discussed the impact of political instability on the Romanian economy, highlighting the complicated global context and persistent internal issues. He emphasized that multiple global crises contribute to a climate of uncertainty, affecting investor sensitivity. Romania faces structural problems, such as a constant budget deficit and increasing public debt, which has transformed the country from a relatively comfortable position into a vulnerable one.

Năsulea warned that a political crisis could trigger a severe economic crisis, with devastating effects such as economic decline, company closures, and rising unemployment. The ability of the political class to ensure stability and credibility is essential for maintaining investor confidence. Without this, Romania could experience massive capital withdrawals and an increase in borrowing costs, exacerbating existing economic imbalances. Thus, the interconnection between politics and the economy becomes increasingly evident, and short-term solutions could worsen long-term problems.
