Police in Arad carried out a significant seizure of contraband cigarettes following a check on the A1 highway, on Thursday, in the area of the junction between DN 69A and the highway. Inside a truck, authorities discovered 7,800,000 cigarettes of various brands, with an estimated value of approximately 5,500,000 lei. The truck driver, a 36-year-old man from Timișoara, had departed from the municipality of Arad. The entire cargo was seized by the police for further investigation, and the truck was immobilized by the police. The man was detained for 24 hours on charges of smuggling. This action highlights the police's efforts in combating the illegal trafficking of cigarettes in Romania.
