Mircea Fechet, PNL deputy and former Minister of the Environment, announced the submission of a draft law aimed at expanding the Deposit-Return System (SGR) to a wider range of packaging, such as those for pickles, oil, distilled water, coffee, and coffee-based products.
Fechet expressed hope that, starting from January 1, 2027, the SGR will also include jars, whether made of metal or plastic, to improve their collection. He emphasized that the current system has a collection rate of over 90%, comparable to those in the European Union, and much superior to conventional recycling systems.
The project also includes reusable packaging, allowing for the reuse of bottles multiple times.
Fechet mentioned that this initiative is part of a broader effort to make Romania cleaner and to maximize the benefits of the SGR, which has already proven effective in reducing waste.
