The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) of Romania has issued a travel warning for Romanians who are in or intend to travel to Cuba, highlighting a severe fuel crisis affecting the functioning of public services and transport infrastructure.
Starting from February 2026, Cuban authorities have implemented emergency measures to reduce energy consumption, which may cause significant disruptions in air and road transport, electricity and water supply, as well as in medical and commercial services. MAE recommends that Romanians check travel conditions, take out travel insurance, and avoid non-essential internal travel. It is also suggested to stock up on water, food, and medicines, as well as to ensure sufficient amounts of cash.
Romanian citizens in Cuba are requested to notify the presence of the Romanian Embassy in Havana to facilitate consular assistance. In case of emergency, they can contact the Embassy at an available phone number.
