The Ministry of Energy has issued a statement confirming that it has taken note of Lukoil's intention to sell its international assets, in the context of the sanctions imposed by the US on the group. The Ministry will be able to express an official position only after the structure of the ownership and the origin of the capital of potential investors have been clarified.
Additionally, the position of the European Union will be analyzed, considering that Romania applies the sanctions regime established at the European level. Lukoil, the second largest oil company in Russia, has accepted an offer from Gunvor for its external assets, including the Petrotel-Lukoil refinery in Romania. This has been for sale for almost ten years, but has not attracted investors due to outdated facilities and the need for significant investments.
