The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that the closure of coal units at the Oltenia Energy Complex could lead to a real risk of blackout. Romania has committed to decarbonization through the PNRR, but the necessary gas plants exist only on paper. Ivan has commissioned an independent study that highlighted four scenarios, and the ministry will provide clarifications to the European Commission to avoid penalties and to maintain operational coal units.
