The judges of the Bucharest Military Tribunal decided, on Thursday, to postpone the ruling on the merits in Case 10 August to June 15.
In this case, former leaders of the Romanian Gendarmerie, Laurențiu Cazan, Sebastian Cucoș, and Cătălin Sindile, are accused of abuse of office in connection with the intervention in Victoriei Square in 2018, which led to the violent dispersal of peaceful protesters. In previous hearings, final debates took place, and prosecutors requested prison sentences for Cucoș and Sindile, while a suspended sentence was requested for Cazan. At the last hearing, two of the defendants did not appear, and Cazan insisted on the correctness of his actions. Additionally, 13 other gendarmes are being tried for abusive conduct, and prosecutors emphasize that the intervention of the gendarmes was unjustified and disproportionate, considering it inhumane treatment.
