The mayor of Tulcea, Ștefan Ilie, discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine on local tourism, mentioning that operators in the HoReCa sector have reported a decrease in tourist interest due to alerts and drone images.
He explained that, although locals have become accustomed to these alerts, tourists, especially foreigners, perceive the area as dangerous, which leads to reluctance in visiting Tulcea. The mayor announced that OMD Tulcea, together with the City Hall, has requested the responsible institutions to analyze the possibility of sending alerts in a more geographically defined manner, as some messages reach areas that are not directly affected.
He also emphasized that, in his opinion, Romania is protected as a NATO member state and that there is no danger of an armed conflict on the territory of the country. In recent years, the counties of Tulcea and Galați have received numerous RO-Alert messages, especially after the Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports near the border.
