The mayor Călin Bibarț from Arad proposes the introduction of free local public transport for all citizens, as a measure to compensate for the increase in local taxes and fees. In an open letter addressed to the Arad parliamentarians, he requests support for amending the legislation to allow local councils to approve free public transport.

This initiative would not only mitigate the fiscal impact on the population but would also capitalize on recent investments in public transport. Until the law is amended, the local administration will extend free transport facilities for certain categories, such as blood donors and retirees with pensions below the European average. The mayor has requested a legal analysis to identify any legislative impediments, concluding that amendments are needed in two normative acts. The legislative proposals will be sent to the parliamentarians for debate, with the hope that the amendments will be adopted by June.
