The low water level of the Danube has disrupted tourism in Hungary, causing the blocking of cruise ships north of Budapest and suspending tourist tours.

According to the National Water Management Authority of Hungary, the level of the Danube dropped Thursday morning to just eight centimeters above the historic minimum reached eight years ago.

The operator MAHART-PassNave emphasized that this decrease is part of a long-term trend, and international cruise ships, which carry approximately 600,000 passengers annually, are essential for the local economy.

Although ships can still enter Hungary, many are stuck in ports due to low levels.
