The German federal agency for inland navigation announced on Monday that the level of the Rhine River has risen rapidly due to recent rains, facilitating the loading of more goods by ships. However, problems caused by low water levels persist, affecting the German industry.

At the beginning of August, the Rhine reached historic lows due to a heatwave, leading to higher transport costs and logistical bottlenecks. Although ships can now navigate partially loaded, the navigable level at the Kaub station was about 60 cm, compared to 20 cm last week.

For a full load, a level of 1.50 meters is required. Freight transport companies have started to resume services, but with reduced loads, which increases costs. The drought this summer has severely affected navigation on the Rhine, a crucial route for transporting grains, minerals, and petroleum products.
