The High Court of Cassation and Justice sent a preliminary complaint to the Government on Friday, requesting the immediate release of salary arrears earned by magistrates following thousands of lawsuits.
Lia Savonea, the president of the supreme court, warned that, in the event of a refusal, the court will take the Government to court and will seek to sanction those responsible for the delay in payments.
The state has approximately two billion euros in salary arrears to pay, and the Government has decided to postpone payments to redirect funds towards a social package for vulnerable individuals, a package requested by the PSD to vote on the Budget Law.
The complaint includes three main demands, including ensuring the necessary funds and budget rectification.
The High Court considers that the Government's refusal to allocate the necessary amounts is unjustified and will take action in court if the situation is not resolved favorably. It is also mentioned that failure to execute court rulings will result in penalties and compensation for the damage caused.
