In the meeting on Thursday, the Government approved a Decision regarding the reorganization of the National Forest Administration – Romsilva, aimed at streamlining the management of state-owned public forests. The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, emphasized that the reform will transform the fragmented administrative model into a more coherent and efficient regional one, reducing bureaucratic structures.
Through this reorganization, the number of forestry directorates will be reduced from 41 to 19, and the directors will be selected through a competition, signing mandate contracts with performance criteria evaluated annually. The mandates will last for 5 years, with the possibility of extension based on results. The performance criteria will include financial and non-financial indicators, such as net profit and partnerships with local communities.
Additionally, the responsibilities of each structure within Romsilva will be clarified, and the concept of economic efficiency will be introduced for related activities, ensuring better financial discipline. The decision is part of the requirements of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and aims for more responsible management of forest resources.
