The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announced that the Government will adopt an emergency ordinance to limit fuel prices, in the context of disruptions in the global market caused by the conflict in the Middle East. Although the measures will not fully compensate for the effects of these disruptions, they will have a significant impact on prices. Among the proposed measures are declaring a state of crisis in the fuel sector, limiting diesel exports, and restricting the commercial markup of companies in the oil industry.
Additionally, a mechanism will be created to prevent price speculation and the obligation to include biofuels in gasoline will be eliminated. Ivan emphasized the importance of returning additional revenues to the state budget towards Romanian companies and the population, by reducing certain taxes or contributions. The government will announce on Tuesday the definitive measures for protecting the economy and citizens.
