Gerhard Roiss, former CEO of OMV, stated that Austria should benefit from the gas extracted from the Neptun Deep field in the Black Sea, considering that the Austrian state holds a 31.5% stake in OMV and has invested billions in the development of this project. He emphasized that there is a moral obligation to allow the Austrian population to partially benefit from these resources.

The Neptun Deep project is considered strategic for Romania and the energy security of the region, and gas production is expected to start in the coming years. Recently, OMV Petrom reached an agreement with the Romanian Government, which provides for a 40% increase in royalties for oil and gas extraction, thus ensuring a fair share of national resources. Romania has also decided to extend the exploration period of the Neptun Deep perimeter by two years and to extend the duration of the exploitation licenses of the areas taken over for privatization by 15 years.
